Piano Lessons

You will learn how to play the piano using a comprehensive method that helps build a strong musical foundation. Students learn by improving their ability to play technical exercises as well as work on fun, familiar songs. Lessons follow a structured process based on weekly goals to help students:

  • Learn how to read music by playing songs that they are familiar with
      
  • Play with proper technique and fingering
  • Build a solid rhythmic foundation
  • learn music theory and understand how music is composed
  • Develop a personal sense of musicality by encouraging artistic choices
  • Be able to perform their favourite songs for others with confidence and ease

In addition to a comprehensive musical foundation, you will also have the opportunity to learn the following subjects:

  • How to improvise 
  • How to compose their own songs
  • How to play and sing at the same time
  • Music History
  • Music Appreciation
 

Lesson Options

A number of lesson options are available, to suit all ages and abilities.

♪  Individual Lessons:   one on one lesson for either 30 or a 60 minute lesson for older students (13+) who will spend 30 minutes working independently on theory, composition, music history and aural skills.

♪  Partner Lessons:  a combination where part of the lesson is shared with another student of similar age and level. lesson time is split 20 min individual and 20 min partner time.

Sibling Lessons:  Where 2 siblings share a 60 min lesson. Time is split between one on one teaching, games and activities and independent learning.

♪  Group Lessons: an exciting approach to beginner lessons.  A 40-50 minute lesson depending on the ages of the students.

♪  Online Lessons:   Online lessons are available for students who would like the comfort of learning in their own home or are unable to attend lessons in the studio at Pahiatua.  A good internet connection is a must as well as a devise that can be set up by the piano. (e.g laptop, tablet, I-pad.  a cell phone is ok but the screen is too small to see clearly)


Practicing 

A key part to learning the piano is making time for regular practice.  Students are encourage to make this a part of their lesson through regular challenges and our yearly themed practice game.

Regular practice is where the magic happens,  what was once impossible becomes possible and students feel a sense of accomplishment and pride.
